<ga:textBody>Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us about the Reproductive Health & Access Act! We enjoyed talking with you and wanted to send along more information.

The Reproductive Health and Access Act (HB 2354) protects the right of women to a continuum of choices throughout their reproductive lives -- from honest sex education to access to quality birth control, prenatal care, and the right to choose abortion.

It's an important bill for Illinois and our elected officials need to hear from us - please send them an email today by clicking the link below!

Tell your state rep to vote YES on the RHAA!
http://www.ppaction.org/campaign/RHAA_Vote_YES_clone

This is a reasonable bill that ensures everyone the ability to use or refuse contraception and ensures that every woman is able to make her own personal decisions about when and whether to have a child and to control her own reproductive health without interference.

However, some people want to interfere with the ability to make personal reproductive health care decisions. They think the government should be involved. That is why they oppose the RHAA. And they are calling state legislators telling them to vote no.

We have to tell our side of the story and we need you! Now is the time to tell your state representative to vote YES on the RHAA.

Send a personal email today! http://www.ppaction.org/campaign/RHAA_Vote_YES_clone

To learn even more about the RHAA - and sign a petition in support of the bill - check out our website at www.plannedparenthoodillinoisaction.org!

We have lots of great activities going on to support this bill and need your help. To find out more about the activities in your area, send me an email today!

Thanks again for your time and support!

<ga:textBody>Anti-choice extremists are continuing their campaign against our Aurora health center. Their latest tactic is to fight our application for additional parking spaces. We have applied to the city for additional parking spaces to create a safer and more secure environment for our staff. Currently, we do not have enough parking for all of our staff. As a result, some employees cannot park near our building which opens them up to harassment from anti-choice protestors who regularly follow and heckle them when they are going to and from work.

On Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. the Aurora City Council will take up this issue and decide whether or not to grant Planned Parenthood additional parking.

Please send a letter to the Aurora mayor and City Council members. Tell them that you support Planned Parenthood's request for additional parking because it is an issue of safety.</ga:textBody>

<ga:subjectLine>Buffer Zone Update</ga:subjectLine>
<ga:textBody>Buffer Zone Ordinance Passes!

Today, the Chicago City Council passed an ordinance that will create a safety zone around hospitals, medical clinics, and health care facilities. This is great news for our patients, staff, and volunteers!

Within this 50 foot buffer, individuals will be prohibited from approaching people within 8 feet unless they are given permission. In addition, the ordinance will prohibit interfering with someone's ability to enter or leave a medical facility. The new ordinance protects patients, medical staff and volunteers from harassment. It also balances the right of individuals to access medical care with the right of protestors to express themselves at a safe distance.

Thank you to all of our supporters who wrote or called their aldermen in support of the buffer zone! And thanks so much to our amazing group of activists who attended this morning's City Council Meeting to show their support!

You've done amazing work, but we're not quite done yet - Check out how your alderman voted on this ordinance and be sure to either give them a call and thank them for supporting health & safety or let them know that you are dissappointed in their vote. You can find out how they voted and get their phone number right here: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/illinois/bubble-zone-votes-30576.htm

If you're not sure who your alderman is, just click here to find out: http://www.chicityclerk.com/citycouncil/alderman/find.html

As always, thanks so much for all you do to ensure safe access to reproductive health care - you've done a great job this week!</ga:textBody>

<ga:textBody>Support Clinic Safety - Call Your Alderman Today! 312-744-6800

Tomorrow, the Chicago City Council will vote on a proposed ordinance that will create a safety zone around hospitals, medical clinics, and health care facilities. Within this 50 foot buffer, individuals would be prohibited from approaching people within 8 feet unless they are given permission. In addition, the ordinance would prohibit interfering with someone's ability to enter or leave a medical facility.

In recent months, reproductive health centers have been the target of increased protests. The tactics of the protestors have become more aggressive. Patients have been heckled. Staff have been followed. Volunteers have been harassed.

Chicago needs an ordinance that protects patients, medical staff and volunteers. This proposal does just that. It balances the right of individuals to access medical care with the right protestors to express themselves at a safe distance.

Don't wait! Call your alderman today!

Tell them "Please attend the October 7th City Council meeting and vote YES on the buffer zone ordinance."

"Proposal would protect those seeking abortions" Chicago Sun-Times http://www.suntimes.com/news/cityhall/1798964,abortion-clinic-Chicago-ordinance-093009.article#.

This is an important victory for the patients and medical professionals of Chicago!

A bubble zone of eight feet will help ensure that those giving and seeking health care can safely enter and leave medical facilities, keep entrances open, maintain distance between individuals, minimize physical contact and reduce harassment and intimidation.

The bubble zone balances the need to protect patient and staff safety while preserving the freedom of speech.

Since Dr. George Tiller was assassinated in Wichita in May for providing abortions, PPIL has seen a significant surge in the size and aggressiveness of protests in front of our health centers. Our clients deserve the right to receive the health care they need without putting their safety, and the safety of our staff and volunteers, in jeopardy.

That is why Planned Parenthood of Illinois is celebrating the success of the proposed buffer zone ordinance in today's committee. But, our work is not over. The full Chicago City Council will be considering the buffer zone ordinance on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.

We need to make sure that every Chicago Alderman hears that safety around health facilities is important.

Send a letter to your alderman today.

Tell them to vote YES on the buffer zone ordinance!</ga:textBody>

The Reproductive Health and Access Act (HB 2354) protects the right of women to a continuum of choices throughout their reproductive lives -- from honest sex education to access to quality birth control, prenatal care, and the right to choose abortion.

Tell your state rep to vote YES on the RHAA!

<ga:textBody>Great News!
Medication abortion to be offered at PPIL's Health Center in Springfield!

Planned Parenthood of Illinois is committed to making sure that a full range of reproductive health care services are available in Illinois. As a health care provider in Springfield for over 35 years, Planned Parenthood knows that the women of this area need access to wider a range of services closer to home. That's why we are pleased to announce that in the coming months we will begin offering medical abortion services at our Health Center in Springfield. See today's article in the State Journal-Register: http://www.sj-r.com/health/x576519774/Local-Planned-Parenthood-to-offer-abortion-drugs

Please show your support of our service expansion by sending a letter to the editor of the State Journal-Register! http://service.sj-r.com/forms/letters.asp

After a careful assessment of the needs of our patients and the community, we decided to expand our services to include medication abortion so that women will have more choices available to them. Expansion of medication abortion to the Springfield Health Center will provide access for women who would otherwise have to travel 100 miles or more for care.

Each year PPIL provides more than 10,000 health care visits for Springfield area residents. In Fiscal Year 2009, the Springfield Health Center administered more than 994 pregnancy tests. Twenty-eight percent of these were positive.

Sangamon County is home to some of the highest birth rates, including teen birth rates, in Illinois. Nearly half of all pregnancies in Illinois are unintended. And many of the women who come to our Springfield Health Center and find out they are pregnant request help in obtaining abortion services.

Unfortunately, there are only four abortion providers in downstate Illinois - one in Peoria, two in Champaign (including PPIL's Champaign Health Center) and one in Granite City. The travel and time required by going to another city can be a challenge for many women who already face barriers to accessing health care. This is particularly true for low-income women who do not have the financial resources for transportation.

The women of the Springfield area deserve better.

Take Action!

SAMPLE LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

I was so pleased to learn that Planned Parenthood will be providing medication abortion in Springfield.

Right now, if a woman living in Springfield decides that abortion is the best option for her, she has to travel to another city. For many women this is a great hardship. Facing an unintended pregnancy is difficult enough. It shouldn't be made worse by the bad luck of living somewhere that doesn't have the care you need.

I'm glad that after so many years of providing quality health care in Springfield, Planned Parenthood is expanding its services to help even more women.

Sincerely,</ga:textBody>
